Issue:
We have noticed an issue with our 2016 Macbook Pro 15" laptops in the last week. If we close the lid to sleep it, or sleep the computer from the menu, when it wakes, we may not have sound.

Solution:
None that we can find, as of Feb 6, 2018. We have all updates applied.

Work-around Options:

1. USBC Ports Option:
This seems to work sometimes. Unplug all USBC devices and re-plug them into the laptop, and then see if the audio works.

Since, but that includes our monitor, Time Machine drive, etc., we don't like that option.

2. Reboot the Mac:
If we do a full reboot of the Mac, this works. However, this is very non Linux and non Apple historically. We are on Mac so that we don't have to behave like MS Windows people. Besides, we have lots of programs and lots of tabs of open work. We don't want to spend 5 to 15 minutes to do that.

3a. Restart the audio subsystem:
Another option is to enter the following double command:
$ sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist && sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist

If your laptop is not running with system protection, this will work. Otherwise, it gives us a message that audio is protected. We can turn this feature protective feature off, but that doesn't sound good either. Also, when we do this, the touch strip audio doesn't seem to be there until the next reboot.

3b. Kill the audio subsystem:
We can issue the following command to stop it less softly:
$ sudo kill all coreaudiod

This does work even with the protection enabled. This only takes a few seconds and this is the work-around we have settled on using until Apple fixes the issue. We still do have the touch strip no longer working until reboot, but at least we can keep working until a reboot is convenient.
